The fear and art of stand up comedy and why you should do have a go.

Ever been to see a stand up show and had a hurt belly after? Every taken time to consider what goes into standing on a stage all by yourself with the sole aim to make people laugh? Ever thought it would be the scariest thing anyone could do? Ever thought you should have a go?

Most art forms of a high quality produce something that appears effortless and easy. Stand up comedy is no different. All great artists make things look easy, but like the great painters, the reality is the comedian/comedienne will have taken quite an internal journey to get themselves on to the stage and get their mouths to open.

And yet what is life if it's not to try things that scare us so much. What's the worst thing that can happen?

Many people have that list. You know the one where you list all the things you should do before you die. The bucket list. And on those lists are the usual: bungee jump, swim with dolphins, see the pyramids, learn to dive, jump out of plane, make love in the grand canyon. But few write on that list, stand on stage and see if you can make people laugh.

Why not? It's not nearly as dangerous as most of the things on the list. The worst might have been the throwing of the rotten tomatoes, but that went out back in the seventeenth century.

And yet people cringe at the idea of going on stage.

Which is why one autumn I started a twelve week course with a rather well known stand up comedy teacher which propelled me onto a stage in front of 300 people dong a three minute stand up skit.

It's the scariest thing I've ever done. It's the scariest thing that the other 12 people back stage have ever done. I know this because I watched how each person dealt with the stress. Some kept repeating their lines quietly, some simply rocked silently, another couldn't stop talking. I'd tell you what I was doing but my memory is a blank. The kind when you were younger and you got so drunk that only snippets flash back in your memory.

The key to stand up comedy is to talk about the world how you see it and then give it a twist. That means that though the stories are not always true, they are as close as can be to factual truth because a good stand up comic has to expose themselves otherwise they will not believed.

And you know what is really interesting? If you have ever laughed at anything, you have the capability to do a stand up - even if it's only three minutes.

So feel the fear and expose yourself. It's very cathartic. I recommend it.

Article Source: Alba F Lewis

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03669682069012028547noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827403367944111546.post-30803953190923546262012-04-14T06:00:00.000-07:002012-07-12T06:01:25.447-07:00Funny Comic Strips - Important Tips

I've discovered old Candid Camera episodes on YouTube. And I miss Captain Jenks from the Howard Stern show. These people knew the art of the prank.

Pranks aren't always clean. They aren't always nice and they are rarely without repercussions. That's what makes them so amusing. The guy doing the prank usually knows there will be a backlash.

Guys if you want to play good pranks, specially kids get an adult with sound judgment involved, do not get into trouble and don't be disrespectful. Some pranks create great laughs all around others well. April Fool's day is legally allowed to play jokes and pranks on your friends, family and co-workers and have a built-in excuse.

One can find the list of good pranks on the internet.

It made me think of the 5 things that define the art of the funny prank.

1) Mellow lead up.

The best pranks have a very mellow beginning. A quiet dinner. A stroll through the park, etc. It's a must to start slow.

2) Something completely out of place.

A prank can't even survive unless something unexpected happens. A nice guy gets into a fight. A gorilla gets loose in a butterfly sanctuary. You know, it needs to be completely out of left field.

3) The victim must be an empathetic person.

A funny prank is made 20 times funnier when you see the shock and awe on the victims face. In order to be shocked by a prank you must choose someone who will truly be filled with empathy when he sees the world crumbling in front of him.

4) Confusion and Chaos

Funny pranks make great use of chaos. This is the best way to make sure the victim will not catch on that it's a prank. When there is too much information coming at them, they have little time to process the fact that they are being punked. So keep it crazy at the height of the prank

5) An easy escape

The best pranks you will see have an easy and fast escape button. Don't let the prank get out of hand and make sure all the 'players' know the ending signal. After all you want to get to the best part... that's when you look at your friend with a big grin and he realizes what has happened.

If you follow these five simple steps you too can perpetuate a funny prank.

Good luck!

Article Source: Chester Dickfield

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03669682069012028547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827403367944111546.post-37415236713114241632012-04-12T05:56:00.000-07:002012-07-12T05:57:43.177-07:00The 10 Funniest Comedies of 2011

A comedy movie can be your escape to every day's stress. In 2011, there were a number of movies that made it to the box office. These are the funniest films that would leave you laughing your heart out. You probably missed some of these movies, so it's worth checking them out.

1. The Hangover Part II. The second Hangover movie is a refinement of the first. Watchers have stated that it's funnier too, despite the obvious fact that there are some originality issues. Some parts were a little bit predictable, but the movie's good story and the excellent performances of the actors combined made this movie a hit. No wonder it is one of the highest grossing comedy film of 2011.

2. A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. The weird thing is that this film was released not on Christmas, but around Thanksgiving. The movie has its own laughter-inducing recipe. The combo includes silly lines and weird characters. The story revolves around Harold and Kumar, who are long-time friends meeting each other after six years. But things took an odd turn when they unintentionally burned down a Christmas tree.

3. Crazy, Stupid, Love. There is a reason this movie is included in the top 10 comedy movies for 2011. This is about a man who, after separating from his wife, learns that he doesn't know how to attract women. A handsome and smart guy comes to the rescue to teach him how it's done.

4. Tucker and Dale VS Evil. This is a horror-comedy film of 2011; it stars two unruly college students. Some people may not like the goriness though, but those who are not too squeamish may find many scenes both horrible and hilarious.

5. Horrible Bosses. Three guys don't get too lucky with their bosses. So they take on a plan to take revenge, but things don't exactly go as they planned. The lead actress becomes one of the terrible bosses - a dentist who sensually tortures her assistant. The other bosses are just as despicable.

6. 50/50. The title was created by a person who had cancer. Together with director he brought the comedy film 50/50 to life. The film was not only funny, but also moving. It is about a 27-year-old radio journalist who finds out he has cancer of the spine and a cheating girlfriend.

7. Bad Teacher. The bad teacher is a hilarious movie. The lead actress is not your typical junior high school teacher. She's not well-mannered. She is blunt, therefore, she's definitely not a sweet talker. When her affluent husband-to-be dumps her, the egocentric teacher has to win the heart of another wealthy guy at all costs.

8. The Change-up. The story of this film is somewhat familiar. It is the classic be-careful-what-you-wish-for film. The fun begins when two childhood buddies (a married lawyer and a bachelor) wishing to be in each other's shoes, have their wishes accidentally come true.

9. Bridesmaids. This female comedy film is one of the top grossers in Hollywood. The two-hour long chick flick focuses on the lighter side of women's relationships.

10. Kung Fu Panda 2. Kung Fu Panda 2 is an animated film that takes viewers back to the world of Po, who this time becomes a warrior and a savior of the world.

Article Source: Cedric P Loiselle

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03669682069012028547noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-827403367944111546.post-88203474339320888742012-04-11T05:53:00.000-07:002012-07-12T05:54:33.985-07:00Something To Make You Chuckle

I have three things today that I hope give you a chuckle or at least make you smile. Life can be so serious so much of the time that it's nice to get a tickle whenever you can. Laughter is good for the soul. It produces feel good chemicals in your body and helps relieve stress. I love it for the feel good chemicals that it produces. Did you know there is even a Laughter Meditation? Yep, that's right; all you do is laugh through out the entire meditation.

LAUGHTER MEDITATION

Laughter Meditation is simple and really easy. You can start out by smiling. I am smiling now even as I am typing this, getting ready for the great time that I am going to have. Smiling is good for you too by the way, it immediately changes your mood and brain chemistry. Just try to be mad or upset while you are genuinely smiling. Can't happen, you'll probably bust out laughing because it's so ridiculous. So after smiling just open your mouth and say Ha.

This action should make your abs contract inward. Oh yes laughing is a great work out for your abs also. All that contracting and releasing makes for a pretty good work out to support any other abdominal work out you are doing. So just string a bunch of HaHaHaHa together and you have a laugh. Try it and see. Hope you have a great time.

SILLY THINGS YOU THINK AS A CHILD

When I was a child I would freak out and panic every time I accidentally swallowed a watermelon seed. I thought that a big huge watermelon would then grow in my tummy. I asked my husband did he think the same thing when he was little and he cracked up. It's crazy to think that now as an adult but in a kid's mind it is very believable.

THINGS PEOPLE SAY

"I don't care if I'm just getting up to go to the bathroom in the morning, I always wear heels" - Emily Maynard, "The Bachelorette". I read this and started laughing so hard. I just loved it. It spoke to the girly girl part of me. I love being a woman! I love how we can shake and shimmie and wear heels and pants and flowing frilly things that shine and look absolutely gorgeous. I love bunches of curls, loose and cascading down my back and just flowing. And I absolutely love whipping my head so the hair can move and seeing other sisters do it to (they don't have to be blood or African American, all females are my sisters).

So the above statement bought all of this up for me reminding me why it's great to be a girl, a woman a female and all the wonderful things that go along with it.

I hope you enjoyed this and it really gave you a chuckle or at least made you smile. I hope it made you think of things that feel good and if it didn't think of something that does now. Your thoughts and comments are encouraged and appreciated so please feel free to do so. Have a wonderful and spectacular day!

Article Source: D TaRelle F Tullis

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03669682069012028547noreply@blogger.com0
